The archaeological department is also getting the entire museum renovated. Redevelopment work at the nearly one- century-old museum is underway. At present, the museum consists of 387 artefacts and statues displayed across.
“State archaeological department has been planning entire renovation of the museum and the work has already begun. Stating the timeline will be difficult as it will be an overall redevelopment work,” a state archaeological official, wishing anonymity told TOI.
While the civil work of four new galleries have been completed, the process of finalizing statues, which are to be displayed in the new galleries, is on, he added.
“This renovation is being carried out almost after four decades,” sources in the museum said.
The work of galleries had been completed entirely in a span of four years. The delay was caused owing to some tender followed by funds related issues. Covid 19 pandemic had caused the further delay. As per the redevelopment plan, guard room and vehicle stand have already been developed and beautification of the garden has been done too.
